I have replaced my starter twice and am about to put a third the starter solenoid's keep going out. I have checked for a parasitic draw, replaced the cables, and the ignition tumbler assembly and would like to ask what else could it be?
My old CJ7 seemed to need a new starter every year. I chalked it up to the cheap rebuilt ones that I kept using. The only saving graces were that they had lifetime warranties and were easy to replace.
Get the best rebuilt starter sold by AutoZone or NAPA with a generous warranty. The low end rebuilds don't do well, so go with Best, not Good or Better.

Two since July the first was a AC/Delco gold, the second was from DB Electrical on Amazon and I have another AC/Delco gold now and trying to figure out what is going on, what it could be before I install it.
The first one when I turned the ignition on start smoking and I had to undo the battery cable this is when I replaced the battery cables and got a new battery. OH, the one that was in there when I bought the Jeep stopped working and I found the body of the solenoid had broken loose I could rotate it while still mounted to the starter a little. The second one when I tried to start the Jeep one time only clicked and when I tested the solenoid with a tester that look like a screwdriver with the light in it all terminals were hot. I removed the starter and did a continuity test between the post were the start wire goes and the post where the battery cable goes with my multimeter and did not get a tone showing that solenoid had broken internally.
I do not think it is the flywheel when the starter is working and I start the Jeep it fires right off with no issues but I will bring it up the shop I am taking it to. I did find that the lower bolt hole where the threads are in the bell housing appear to be stripped in that the bolt threads in but does not tighten down so I am not sure if it is the threads are stripped or if that is not the right bolt.
Also if you look at the threads I have posted here I had an issue with the tilt wheel collapsing into my lap when I was driving it and had to take column out and have the tube welded along with buying several new parts and reassemble it.
My thought right now is the starter is moving when I start it because of the issue with the lower bolt and is hitting something like the manifold and breaking or is twisting and breaking the solenoid?
