    flywheel and flexplate bolts

Thanks guys, I value both of your opinions.! I talked to guys at work yesterday about it and the senses seems to be " if they torqued down they should be fine", but im kinda with you greg in that it would just make me feel better knowing. one of the bolts did strip the hole, but I found a...

    flywheel and flexplate bolts

I am putting a new clutch in my jeep and installed the flywheel, bolted it down and torqued the bolts. I then put the disk and PP on and bolted, torqued them down. NOW, this is about the time I realized the guy at the store gave me FLEX PLATE bolts for my FLYWHEEL. The flexplate bolts are 3/4"...

CJ5TRP, you have the buick v6, im pretty sure they had a ODD and EVEN fire engine in the v6,s. You better check to see which you have because if you buy ignition parts for a evenfire when you have a oddfire it will not run correct and you will have all sorts of problems figuring out why not...

    1978 CJ7 walking issue

Its been a long time since I had a fully boxed frame. I do remember having to cut into the frame once to get to a nut, I used a cut off wheel and made about a 2" square cut out. Those nuts are supposed to be welded inside the frame (from factory) and as you have found they dont always hold. I...

Your trans could be anything being a 69. the t90 and I believe the t14 were available at the time. as mentioned, look on the side of the trans and post the numbers you find. The tcase is probably a factory unit ( spicer 18 ) with the factory twin stick although I think the 69 used the single...

need help with transfer case drop

5-7" lift. how did you get there?? body lift, longer shackles?? On 4" lifts a 1" tcase drop is used. Just some advise, if you have long shackles on your jeep, get rid of them. Your handling will suffer greatly with them on, you can go up to 2" longer but would not go more or handling will suffer.

the bushings and steering box brace will probably make a huge difference.

    1978 CJ7 walking issue

Chewboi, You have started in the right place. Probably didn't need to replace your whole shackles, just the bushings. Replace your spring bushings as well if you can (at least on the shackle end of the springs). You have bought a new steering mount which is good, but look into steering box...

Your post is in the wrong section, you may not get a lot of responses because of that. should be in the Cherokee section and would get more responses..

    starting issue

By starter wont function, I assume it wont turn at all when warmed up? Yes, it could be getting too hot from the headers. You can try to make a heat shield to deflect the heat, or try the header wrap. I haven't tried the header wrap before but have considered it, if you use the wrap and it does...

    1973 cj5 build (ground up)

My opinion if you want drop in and simple, is to stay with a jeep factory set up. engine, trans, and tcase. 6cyl or 8cyl up to you, 3 or 4spd trans up to you, but my vote is a v8 with 4spd. being you have 73 axles your gearing may be 4.27 stock, I believe 3.73 was optional, so you have decent...

    1961 cj5 brake master cylinder

The new clutch fork and throw out bearing come into play if the peddles and clutch fork your using don't have the correct ratio. If I remember correctly you need a 6.1 ratio at the clutch fork and a 5.1 at the peddle. its a quick formula to figure it out. I used the master and slave from a...

    1961 cj5 brake master cylinder

if you go hanging peddles, great time to go hydraulic clutch as well. just need to make a bracket to mount the slave to, depending you may need to get a new throwout bearing but I didn't when it did mine.

    1961 cj5 brake master cylinder

as mentioned, there is a round cover on drivers side floor board, 1/2" socket. hopefully its just empty. You can switch to a hanging peddle set up, its best to use 71-74 peddles as they fit the contour of the floor better, 76-86 peddles will need a bend put in them and wrangler peddles will...

Restoring an old CJ - where to start?

redoing a jeep is intimidating. Don't let it intimidate you! you can do it, its not that hard once you get started. Work on one thing at a time before moving on to the next. There are write ups on the net about wiring, just have to google search. Lots of people on this site that can and will...

    compression test

So I decided to do a compression test yesterday on the 327, (10:1 compression if it matters). I have never done one before so im looking to you guys for advice on the numbers. As I understand it, more than a 30% fluctuation between cylinders is telling you its getting wore out and needs a...

    Happy father's day everyone

ha, the wheels. They were bought used and were rusty except for the centers, so I took a large plate and laid it in the center, tapped it off sanded the chrome off best I could and painted the sides of the wheels flat black. I thought it turned out pretty well. Most of the jeep is built like...
