Weird engine noise from my TJ

OK, that really does sound like monkeys - I can't unhear it now. Thanks for that video - his does sound like mine, and the fact that it was much louder on the passenger side, further back from the pulleys makes me think you're right. I bought this off Amazon - let me know if you have any...

Weird engine noise from my TJ

It's an auto. The weird thing is that the noise only happened that one trip. After I turned the jeep off and restarted later it was gone. I've made a few trips and haven't heard the noise again. I took the pressure washer to the engine bay today, as it was still pretty dirty from my last trip...

Weird engine noise from my TJ

Hopped in my 2005 4.0L TJ and drove halfway down the street before I noticed a weird noise. It was engine speed related, and would occur in neutral as well. I went back home and took the below video. I turned the Jeep off and back on again and the noise is gone. I've made two trips without the...

Jeep TJ oil drain plug gasket - do we need to change this?

I remember hearing somewhere that I should change the drain plug gasket on my TJ every time I change the oil. I'm embarrassed to say that I've never done this. I went on rockauto to grab a couple, but it looks like there are quite a few options, manufacturers, as well as materials. What's...

    Back out on the trail

I've washed it twice, and it's just "dirty" now. both times I'd put the pressure washer into each hole in the frame and blast for what felt like forever. I've got the water running out clean now though.

    Back out on the trail

Two weeks ago me and the boys went on our yearly offroad trip. This time we went back to Burning Rock offroad park and had a great time. It was off season, so we had the park pretty much to ourselves which was cool - it was also really wet. One thing that I noticed is that my TJ had a much...

    Breaking Starter Solenoids

"That bolt's just for show!" I'm glad it's working.

    Ford gpw 1942

That looks like a blast. I'd have been nervous when the front end came up while climbing the hill (at 1:09)!

    Breaking Starter Solenoids

Just throwing things out there, but could this be a problem with your flywheel - bent or missing teeth? Do the bad ones work if you try them out on the bench? Maybe spin but not engage?

    Breaking Starter Solenoids

My old CJ7 seemed to need a new starter every year. I chalked it up to the cheap rebuilt ones that I kept using. The only saving graces were that they had lifetime warranties and were easy to replace. How often are you replacing these?

    got another tj

Some rust stains, but overall a good looking Jeep. How does the frame look?

    got another tj

$1000 for a TJ? That sounds like a steal! I'm looking for a Jeep for my 15 year old son now, and they aren't cheap. I'm jealous

    Accident Woes

I was wondering how that car hit you with its butt like that.

    Accident Woes

Man, that's a bummer. Did the frame take any damage, or just the door / rocker?

    Con_Ferr front slide shield

I too have no real help to offer, but I do see what looks like a cheap CJ power steering skid plate on amazon. Can't tell you if it's any good, but if it isn't up to snuff you can always return it. https://www.amazon.com/CrawlTek-Steering-Skid-compatible-Jeep/dp/B0CBCR8GLM/

I got ducked for the very first time

Been driving the Jeep most of my life and I'd never received a duck before. It finally happened this weekend. Coming out of harbor freight with my daughter., I saw this little guy wedged under my door latch. My daughter was really stoked and already talking about paying it forward. Guess I'm in...

Are wheel spacers / adapters that bad?

My TJ's rims are pretty beat up, and my 33s are getting warn down - I'm probably a year away from some new rims and tires. I'd really like to get a set of take off JK or JL rubicon take off rims (the ones with the little Jeep on them). I'd be going from a 4.5x5 lug pattern to a 5x5 lug pattern...

    Thoughts on Watt Linkage

That's wild, and looks interesting. You'd need a pretty stout diff cover I'd bet. I can't exactly see how the red ends are mounted, but they do look to be up and out of the way.

    Batt showing 12.48V

I'd start by checking the belt going to the alternator. Verify that is tight and in good shape. Next, I think (but have never done it myself) that Advance Auto (and likely others) can test your battery and alternator for free. I would expect that the battery light monitors the charging...
