It seems to drive fine, just misses at idle. checked the injector. its ok. gonna do a compression test and see what that looks like. maybe a dirty valve.

I have a 98 TJ w/ 4.0 & auto trans, that my daughter drives. She tells me that it is skipping so I check codes. got a p0301, misfire cyl 1. I changed the plugs, still missing. Swaped wires and cap, still same code. could it be the injector? Any help appreciated..

The fix for the problem was to replace the computer. I got a scanner and tryed to check for any codes, but the scanner said that it could not communicate with the pcm. The same scanner had been used before without problems. Local dealer wanted 400.00 for pcm + 100.00 to program it. Found one...

Used the info given and everything seems to check out ok. But... I borrowed a odb ll scanner and when hooked up it would get a communication error. It would not give me any information. I have used the same scanner on this tj before and it worked fine. Ideas?

Can't get my 98 tj to crank. I've checked grounds, fues, relays, battery, changed crank sensor, checked fuel pump, to no effect. With key on, the fuel gauge and battery gauge don't move. I get no fuel pump prime or fire to ignition whem spun over to crank. Jumper at relay gets fuel pump to come...

I changed the crank sensor in the transmission bellhousing. This has to be something simple (I hope) It was running fine when parked, now its dead. Could this be a problem with the pcm? What tells the fuel pump to prime and sends spark signal to the coil?

What should the timing be at idle on a 98 tj 4.0L. I have a timing light and want to check the advance. Still chasing down the miss at 1500 rpm.

Right now WOT is 1500 rpm but the pressure was steady while it was running and when i tried to rev the motor. I will drop the tank and make sure that there is a good volumne of fuel coming out the pump. Is there a valet mode or something that could cause this?

Checked the fuel pressure and it is steady at 48 psi.

Thanks steelheadz, I printed that out for future referance. I'll get a fuel pressure gage and see if the pressure is right.

No the SES light is not on. and it doesn't show any codes. I did unplug the tps while it was running and it wouldn't miss untill 2500 to 2800 rpm. I just don't know what the TPS does to the engine to know if this is important. When I unpluged the TPS I did get the 24 code.

I'll check that tomorrow and we'll see what it does. I thought that a bad o2 senser would make a ruff idle or rich condition, but it idles fine. Still its something to check. Thanks
