Mujaman Did you get this problem fixed? I have the same thing with my 00XJ. I also have a 3" lift. When I first installed the lift everything was tight and the Jeep handled real well, now after a few months it's getting sloppy again.

Had it out on the weekend and put it through some pretty good terrain, and no problems. Adjusting the shift linkage seemed to do the trick.

My 00XJ's check engine light is on. Ran the scan tool and came up with Left Bank Downstream or Downstream and Pre Catalyst O2S Shorted to Voltage. The code was a P0138 Oxygen sensor input voltage maintained above the normal operating range. Any ideas as to what this means?

I adjusted the shift linkage for the transfer case. It's pretty simple to do and only took 5 minutes. I will let you guys know when I take it off road again if the noise is still there. Thanks for the tips.

Come to think about it, it rattles slightly when coming to a stop. I can feel it throught the shifter while slowing down. Do I just check the rubber for wear?

Graewulf, Do you think that the slight rattle when I shut the engine off could be a vibration in the transfer case? Engine mounts? I'm looking for a place to start. It sounds like it is directly below the shifter. Any ideas?
