    Flat towing a CJ

My 77 with the Quadra-trac does have the low range & it has been converted to partime. Also the output shaft bearing on it is low enough to be constantly lubed. This is not the case with the model 20 transfercase. It would not recieve lube unless the gear train was slinging it up on it. With the...

    engine rebuild or not??????

This could be something as simple as a bad plug, plug wire, dist. cap etc. so look at these first. Switch a known good plug into the cyl. thats dead & check the results. Then do the same with the plug wire. Check compression in this cyl. next. Report back you results.

    Flat towing a CJ

I've had two different people tell me the model 20 output bearing does not get lubed when it's in neutral & flat towed. Maybe your model 300 does. I'm somewhat surprised this did not get more response from this board.

What's your favorite model and year Jeep?

back spacing question When I had my 72 CJ-5 back in '77 I thought it was the best Jeep ever built. In the early 90s I had a bitch'n 69 Jeepster Commando with posi front/rear & auto hubs, Buick V-6 Auto. This rig was a real performer & head turner & I kindá miss it but my true love is obviously...

    Flat towing a CJ

I am wanting to tow bar my CJs to some of the events coming up this summer. A freind told me I'd have to pull the rear driveshafts or I'd burn up the output bearing on the transfercase as it won't get lubed. This looks like it maybe true on my 76 with the Model 20, but I don't think so on the 77...

    Scout II axle swap

Re: Noise while 4X4ing I'm loosing intrest in this swap very quickly after doing more research. Seems like more work than it's worth. I think I'll clamshell & truss my AMC 20 for now & upgrade the axles when they let go.

    Scout II axle swap

I'm seriously considering swapping Scout II Dana 44 axles under my 76 CJ-7. I understand they are approx. 2" wider so the spring perches will need modified. I'll more than likely do a spring over at this time anyhow. Is there anything I should know before purchasing them other than the gear...

    What wheelin should mean

I started when I was approx. 10. I removed the mower deck from my parent's riding mower & went wheeling. Moved up to a beat up '54 Chevy pickup when I was 13. Got chased out of several farmer's pastures with it. Mini bikes, dirt bikes, atvs, 4x4s soon followed. It's a great sport that has given...

Well, I admit it. One downside of having a Jeep...

Leave the back seat at home. Passenger seat forward. Some may prefer dropping the tailgate. Heavy Coleman sleeping bag. Candle is optional. Off road romance is great!

Well you guys were right. The welded rear diff. performed off road much better than I would have ever expected. It does seem to be putting a great deal of strain on things when making tight turns on pavement. These well worn 15.5" tires don't like to slip. I'll run it like this till the carrier...

    i have a new obcession

I have way to many obsessions myself & off roading has always been one of my biggest. I've bowed out for a time or two as something else got my intrest but have always come back to it. You may find you will to.

    Close TO HOME..SO SAD..

This is sad. His parents must have deprived him of a Red Radio Flyer wagon as a child.

    Building a trailer

Forum title edit suggestion The pintle design does alow for alot of slop but also alot of articulation. If your going to pull this off road it works great! For street use mostly & you want to prevent people from barrowing it just build it with a 2 5/16"hitch & get a quick change ball on your...

OK, OK, I give up. You guys convinced me to go this route for now. I'm going to the Kansas Krunch for the SWFWDA Spring Quarterly this week & don't have the funds or the time to install a locker. There is only two crawling competition classes; 35s & down or 36s & up. I know I wouldn't have much...

    help: winch or lift

I'd tend to agree with Bounty. I've had many great outtings in stock form 4x4s. I've found the more modified the rig the worse I've been stuck. A winch is an invaluable asset to the serious off roader. A Hilift or a ratchet hand winch will get you buy in a pinch but it sure is sweet to have an...

    33's 0r 35's

I have the 33x15.5s Sup. Swampers & feel they are hard to beat for off road use but really dislike them for onroad. 35s are great but will put a fair amount of strain on your stock drivetrain.

    CJ7 Trans/transfer case

If your rear drive shaft is spinning when you power up in 2wd your problem is in the rear end. If not your transfer case is the place to look. You may only have a linkage problem if your lucky. Trans. is ok if it still pulls in 4wd.

I think I found my winch bumper...

I'd have to agree it's a bit of an overkill unless he's using this as a battering ram to knock down walls, trees etc. Some smaller diameter tubing could have been used for a good share of this. I can only imagine the weight it added to the front end.

Don't get me wrong I'm trying to knock this method of locking a diff. It'll work great for those that have narrower tires, plenty of reserve H.P., or slippery surfaces that allow for tire slippage. If the opposite is true your Jeep is going to fight you to go straight. If you have the room it's...

I've considered welding my Dana 20 but I'm very conserned about its' effect on steering push. My 76 CJ has a poor turning radius already because of the 15.5"wide Swampers I have on it. I run some very tight wooded trails & rock crawling that requires good turnability. My Honda FL400 Pilot runs a...
