NEWLY REBUILT 4.0 Motor from 2005 TJ!!!

I got this motor to drop in to my 2000 XJ, as several people of good reputation told me it would work. It won't. Now, I have to sell this motor and find another one for the XJ. If anyone tells you the block on a 2005 TJ is the same as a 2000 XJ, I can attest that they are not. This motor...

    Rims

Backspacing is the distance between the wheel mounting surface (on the backside of the rim center) to the outermost edge of the back side of the rim. If you lay a straightedge across the entire rim, (backside) you can measure from that edge to the center mounting surface to determine a wheels...

    Rims

Yes- just like the pic that jeeper99 posted. That depends. Do you wanna run bigger tires later? Do you want to run the same rims at that time? There is a backspacing range that is acceptable for a given tire size, but the smaller the number, the wider the stance. The wider the stance, the...

    Stretched Wheelbase TJ

If you stretch, it can be really expensive and/or very labor intensive. I'm running 108" WB. Your rig will look funny with anything less than 37" tires on a stretch. At that point, you'll want to ask yourself if you want to keep the stock width axles or go full width. There's a lot to do that...

    Rims

Well, I'll swim upstream here.8) We only run alloy wheels- on and off road. In the last 12 years of wheeling and serious rock crawling, I've only seen one alloy rim get damaged bad enough to replace, and that was on my rig after a multiple roll-over. BTW- it actually bent. It didn't break...

    zj springs in a tj?

Old Man Emu HD ZJ coils will provide a bit over 3" of lift on a TJ, but the spring rate is stiffer. We use them for TJ's that are carrying bigger bumpers and/or winches. You probably wouldn't like the ride quality on a stock TJ. They are probably the one's you heard about for 3"+ of lift. You...

Which is the best Cherokee XJ?

Thanks Larry! Pretty cool site you have there too!:-)

Electric fan not turnng on until 230!

Run the defroster in the winter. That also overrides the temp sensor circuit and makes the aux fan come on. An XJ can run hot in somewhat cold weather too, since the aux fan covers 50% of the radiators cooling area.

    Jeep Rims

None yet. Most of those wheels are brand new, like the 133's and the new 171's & 174's in black. We've sold some of them, but no pics as of yet. They are great looking wheels and you can run anything from 31's to 33's easily on a TJ. Some of them will run 35's.

    Best lift to start with?

That jeep is running our Ultimate TJ Kit- OME/Hybrid system. You can see it on this page: TJ & LJ OME Kits It's running 33" MTR's on 15x8 Eagle Alloy rims with 3.25" backspacing. I'm more partial to the Ion Alloy wheels now though. The kits listed are our most popular, but there are still...

Any cheap way to get longer brake lines on my TJ?

BTW- Bounty Hunter, I kind of like your sig- a lot...8)

Any cheap way to get longer brake lines on my TJ?

Yeah? I know he's been trying to sell it. I think he's still trying to sell his big TJ too. The red jeep is really sweet. His big black TJ is a monster! Good question! I was scrolling through my bookmarks and saw this forum. It has been a long time. Been way too busy the last few years to spend...

    Best lift to start with?

That's a loaded question! You can run a ZJ front coil, but it may or may not be the best height and spring rate for your application. Also, keep in mind that lifting a jeep changes many things that were designed to work together from the factory. Operating angles on control arms, trackbars...

    Just Wondering

We used to carry the KM racks, but had problems with them- some of which you mentioned. We've sold & installed both the KM and the Garvin/Wilderness racks. I had the KM rack & congo cage set-up on my own jeep once upon a time. The KM racks do move too much at speed. They are also significantly...

Heat not hot - already replaced blower

Could also be a thermostat that is stuck open.

Electric fan not turnng on until 230!

Steelheadz hit on it. Just turn on the A/C. It will override the temp sensor signal and turn on the aux fan. A lot of guys think that turning on the AC when the jeep is already overheating will only make the problem worse. Not so on an XJ- as long as everything else is working properly, your...

Which is the best Cherokee XJ?

The 2000 & '01 models went to the low pinion front D30 axle, which is less desirable for off-road use. My fav years would be the '98 or '99's for that reason, although I wouldn't hesitate to buy a 2000 or '01 if the deal was right. These jeeps are only getting older each day & I can swap the...

    8 1/4 swap

Yep. The e-brake cables should be the same if the jeep is a '97 or newer. The newer 8.25 rears have 29spline shafts, so stay with those. Earlier 8.25's had 27spline shafts. (not sure what the transition year was- '96, I think- but for sure '97 & up is good) You can use a 8.25 out of any '97 to...

    Jeep Rims

I'd stay with an aluminum wheel that has a simple, polished outer edge. The inside can be black, but if the outside edge is black, they are gonna look raggedy after a few trail rides in rough terrain, since a jeep wheel will get scratched/gouged on the outside edge. Paint, chrome, powdercoat or...

    TJ blower not working

I replaced that resistor on my 2000 and that wasn't it. Turned out to be the heater fan control switch behind the dash panel.
