Yes, I secured the slave to the metal dowel...no, it wasn't a new slave with the plastic bands still secured, it was the "old" (1 year old) slave cylinder from the original transmission. Maybe it's not bled thoroughly and the slave is airbound? It's odd...seemed like a pretty straightforward...
