I have a 2000 TJ, with stock 15 inch Grizzley rims. I beleive the rim width is 7" Is it possible to put a 10.5 or even as big as 11.5 wide tires on these rims and will they hold up. Thanks

yes you can put a 10.5 tire ont thoes rims. Will work great. 11.5 will also fit but have never heard how they effect the wear of the tire.

you can do it though youi're lsing strength in the sidewalls at that extreme.. usually its good to keep the rim about 3" less than the tire in width.

Hiker,

I have the Grizzly rims on my YJ and I run 33x10.50 BFG MT. They work great for me and should for you as well. Like graewulf said, you'll expose the sidewalls more the wider you get, but you also help keep the bead on the wheel with a wide tire on a narrow rim. I have some friends that even run 12.50 wide tires on 7" wide rims. I would only recommend this with tires of significant sidewall strength. Hope that helps.

I had the 32x11.50x15's on factory 15x7 wheels. It was fine but did wear from the center out. I think this would be alot worse on a more aggressive tire than on the BFG All terrains that I had.

If I were to do it again I would have gone with a 33x10.50x15 in an MT.

You'll get better results by keeping the rim width within 1" of the tread width. A 10.5" tire has a 10.5" section width, but usually just 8.0-8-5" of tread width. 8-8.5" tread is close enough to a 7" rim to be OKAY.
A 10.5" tire on a 7" rim is stretching it, I'd stay away from an 11.50". Tire squirm becomes a problem when running aggressive tires on too narrow of a rim, and the centers will wear out much quicker than the edges because the tire has to roll the sidewall in to meet the rim which in turn pulls the edge of the tread up.

just keep the PSI alittle higher with the 11.5
Just the opposite. The sidewalls are pulled inward on the narrow rim causing the center of the tread surface to bulge outward. Less air is required if you want to keep from running the center out.

I run two sets of 11.5" wide tires on 7" wide rims, TSL/SX's and BFG MT's. It works, but 10.5" is ideal.
