1986 CJ7 milage improvement request

Good morning all, I am new to this forum but have been impressed with the level and quality of all the help I have gotten. Now I need some more. My CJ is now running fine but the milage sucks. The basics are 258 ci, bored .060 over, nutter bypass completed, 31" tires, stock gears, new carb, stock cam, no emission stuff at all. I have an all interstate drive to work and at an indicated 60 mph best I can do is 12.23 mpg. I am thinking about the TFI mod which might help. Or am I just expecting something I can never get. My drive to work is 127 miles RT. I just love to drive it to work with the top off as thats as close as I get to my Harley, as A deer almost ended all my driving last year and my better half still is not crazy about the Harley to work routine any more.

Not sure if you can get much more out of the engine.I have a 2.5l with 31" tires and 4:11 gears.On average I get about 17.5 MPG.You have a bigger engine that has been modified to use even more gas 12 sounds good.
