1996 jeep xj 2wd conversion to 4wd

I have a 96 xj 2wd that i want to convert to a 4wd. the current trans is a AW4 I have a transfer case from a 1999 xj. will it work? and what about the plugins on the transfer case ? will I need a new wiring harness?

New front axle, front driveshaft. I can't tell you about the wiring though.

You should be able to pick up a whole cherokee for a couple hundred to use as a donor - here's a 96 near me for $400

I'd go that route, as you'll likely need a bit more stuff, like the shift linkage, shifter, and console.
