You should be able to pick up a whole cherokee for a couple hundred to use as a donor - here's a 96 near me for $400 https://norfolk.craigslist.org/pts/d/newport-news-1996-jeep-cherokee-j-motor/7011090288.html I'd go that route, as you'll likely need a bit more stuff, like the shift linkage, shifter, and console.
