I have a1997 Jeep Wrangler sport. I had took it in for smog it will not pass because the engine light will not come on. Any advice of what this problem could be?

The engine light will not come on?
I am not familiar with a smog test but it is normally a good thing if your check engine light is not on.
If it was a typo and the light was on the trouble code will be helpful. I don't remember off hand how to get the codes but it is something like pump breaks 3 times then turn ignition in with out starting it.
If this smog test is suppose to turn on the light and it did not come on. I would start with the very basics and make sure the bulb is good.
