Can I run 33" tires on a 1988 yj with a 2.5 4 banger without changing the geers

Sure, but your Jeep will be more capable on and off road with 31's on that setup than 33's. You're only picking up an inch at the differential with the 33's over the 31's.

You could but you will have no power. Not yet experiencing this I can't say how much power loss. I too have a 2.5L and plan on 33, hopefully in less than a month and plan on 4.56 or 4.88

Yes you can. Performance will be better offroad than on, but it's doable until you can regear. I've been running like that for years, engine power mods help some. Nothing beats the proper gearing though.

Ya i am running that setup with a 95 2.5 and it works for know going to regear soon also . What is better regearing or lockers ?

Regearing, but many do lockers at the same time especially if your locker is the entire carrier. If you go with a lunchbox locker like a LockRight or Aussie you can do it at anytime.
