2000 Grand Cherokee Loredo speedo problem

I recently got a 2000 Grand Cherokee Loredo 4.0L. The speedometer does not work but all other gauges do. Any advice for fixing this cheaply ? Thanks

Check the connections at the trans. Is the speedo gear in good condition? Is it clocked properly?
