2005 Liberty Window

This AM when I started my Jeep I noticed the driver's side rear window was half way down. Tried to roll it up and heard a sound (from the window motor I guess) but no movement. The window can be easily moved up or down by hand so it appears to be no longer attached to the mechanism that operates it.
I have heard window issues are common on certain years of Libertys. Is this one of the common isues? Does anyone know what the likely fix will be? If it is costly, I don't really need the window to operate, I'd be happy to immobilize it in the up position.
Thanks.

I think you'll have to take the door panel off and look at the window to see what (if anything) is broken. If the motor still runs and works then the fix may be pretty cheap and easy.

Agree with Terry , you'll have to remove the door panel to investigate. I don't know if the window on your jeep is cable operated or a scissor linkage but either a cable snapped (if cable operated) , a roller bushing wore and jumped from a track or possibly a nylon gear inside the gear case of the window motor shredded if that applies as well. With the panel off you'll be able to hear and see more clearly what's happening when the switch is depressed. Do be careful around window tracks and all spring loaded window mechanisms. Many auto repair books don't include procedures to service manual or power glass since these mechanisms can be potentially dangerous of not properly trained or at least experienced with them. Glass , springs , gear teeth and scissor action track systems are not to experiment with . Take a good look but watch your fingers . Have a good plan before you remove any fasteners should you decide to. If you do not feel comfortable servicing this yourself , by all means , contact a windshield and door glass service and ask for a quote. Hope this helps. No harm in looking , at least you'll know what the cause is and have an idea what parts to expect to replace.
