360/999 trans

i'm putting an early 360 in my 85 cj-7 that has the stock 999 trans {jeep originally had a 258} my problem is the pilot on the crank is way smaller than the spud on the torque conv. i've heard everything from switching to a later year crank to machining down the spud on the t/conv. anyone had this problem? thanks....mike

There may be an adapter ring inside the crank pilot hole. You have to look real close to see it. Good luck gettin it out, but it will come out
