'47 CJ2A build

This will be the even slower build for my 1947 Willys-Overland CJ2A.

Honest, it followed me home!

1947 CJ2A with (What I was told) a 1953 "F" head 134c.i. motor. Came from Utah and been in Ohio for 8 years or so.
Did not run and the reason he stopped driving it was because it needed a fuel tank.

Has 33x9.5 15 BF Goodrich mud terrains and 2 inch box tubing was used to "lift" it.

Cleaned out all the garbage out of it, found a Utah license plate in the toolbox. Then it was time to get it running.

First thing I did was rewire the the mess of a harness. I had a combination of 60 plus year old original wires with many many cut and splice wires, some that went in circles.

Around this time I also removed the CJ3A Arctic top windshield ( that was had the mounting arms cut off and stock arms welded on) and replaced it with a 2A windshield frame.

After working two valves free it fired right up and I drove it around the yard.

Felt great to get it running again but it was still running poorly and had zero brakes.

I determined the problem was with the distributor not seating tightly causing it to misfire. Complete tune up and it ran as well as a 50 year old motor.:D

I decided then to work on the brake system. From sitting for so long, each wheel cylinder froze up.
After disassembling each wheel drum and cleaning them up, rebuilding the master cylinder and adding a few brake lines, the fun and exciting game of bleeding the brake system began.
Eventually I finally had stopping power ( If that is what you want to call it. )

I removed the roll bar that was originally for a CJ7 but cut down and welded to angle iron.

Starting to do some body work. This Jeep had no less then 7 paint jobs. Oh and about 100 pounds of Bondo added to it.

Found a few cracks in the frame and it was tweaked so I decided to get a better frame. Found one and a body in better shape in North Carolina. So the original tub will now be sacrificed for my CJ2A truck.

This is how it sits now.

The plan is to put the CJ2A truck in storage and bring this one into the garage. Hopefully work on it in winter and have it close to a driver by next summer....

NICE Willys, Be great when you're done! Good job so far8) I use had to have a 47 2a also, I couldn't find a pic of it. It had a V6 in it
 

Small update, but one none the less. Plus there are pictures!

Moved the 2A into the garage and attempted to fit the aluminum top and doors I bought yesterday.

Just trying to get the cab sealed up from snow and rain until I start working on it again.
