4wd drive light not coming on...97 TJ

The light on the dash that tells you it is in 4wd is not coming on. It's not the bulb. Is there just a simple "switch" on the transfer case that tells it to go on? thanks

could very well be the transfercase switch.....

are you getting into 4wd though? and just no light?

you could be dealing with a linkage problem too

did you just get transmission work or a lift put on?

I had both and for a day aftre both the light didin't come on


but did eventually.......

if the lights not coming on it's probably just the transfer case mode switch. it runs around 10-15 bucks from the dealer and takes about five minutes to put in. :wink:

The switch is on the driver's side of the transfer case just above and inboard of the transfer case linkage. Maybe try unplugging it and cleaning the connections.

I have a 97 TJ and the light is also non-functional...I wouldn;t fool with it as long as 4x4 engages

it does go into 4wd. is there a way i can check the switch?

It's electrical, so you can probably use a wire to jump the current past the switch and see if the light comes on. If it does, bad switch.
