85 CJ7 Engine swap

I have an 85 CJ7 Renegade with the stock transmission. Recently my 258 6 cyl kicked the bucket. I was wondering what the best way to go would be for my jeep. I don't have a lot of cash and if possible I would like to aviod changing the transmission. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

From what I've heard, you can swap in a 4.0L from a Cherokee/Grand Cherokee for just under 2K (still pretty expensive). You may want to just call some junk yards looking for a 258 (I think they used them until 89?)

Yeah, they used the 258 through 1990, you can look for some amc cars too that had the 258 (amc eagle, concord, etc.)
