97 zj wont idle

started my jeep this morning and it died so i stsrted it again and hit the throttle let off and it died as long as im givung it gas it runs but it wont hold at idle any ideas

I had something just like that on my 89 jeep cherokee, not as bad, i could still drive it, but had to drive two footedand rev the engine at evry stop.

Mechanic replace the map sensor and it runs fine now.
The sensor tells the engine how much gas to put in.

Check the IAC first. Make sure the t. body is clean and the IAC bore is free of carbon build up. If that's ok , then check the map sensor. Thre is also a possibility of the TPS causing it not to idle.

I would remove the throttle body and all the sensors, then give the throttle body a good bench cleaning with a toothbrush and carb cleaner.
