another locker question

I didn't want to hijack magua308's thread on lockers http://www.jeepz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=18578 so I posted my own question. I have a 95 yj, I've already taken care of the rear with an 8.8 and ARB, but need to deal with the d30. I have changed the vacuum disconnect to a cable. Did I miss understand the other thread or can I put a spool in the d30 and maintain on road drivability and tight corners with the cable disconnect?

Thanks in advance, Craig

yes... with the disconnect youre effectively (sp?) making it an open dif - especially in 2wd - the drive shaft floats in the xfer case - and when under power in 4wd - so the pass. side gets no power when tight turning - so you basically end up w/3wd hi/lo w/the disconnect disengaged... and when engaged it acts like a locker... just remember it is a d30 (i.e. not that strong... no blown V-8's etc...)

I run a lincoln locker in my YJ D30, been that way for a few years now. No spool or mini-spool in the aftermarket that I've seen.

I would not get an automatic locker for it, and if spools are not available then the only cheap choice is to weld it like Bounty. With the cable disconnect it would work great, you could unlock the axle for tight turns, snow driving, etc.

That's the way I would go (I plan on doing it to my YJ) if you cant or dont want to spend the $$$ for a selectable locker.

This post helsp me, too, Dads95YJ, I think I will go with the Lincoln Locker in the front and a Lock Right in the rear. That gives me the most bang for the buck. If I break something, I can tell my wife that it "just broke for no reason, so i might as well put something stronger in it".
