Another Tire/Wheel question!!

I have a 2000 Wrangler, 4" lift.

I put 10" offset rims, and 32X11.50 BFG AT's on her. Now, when I go through any mud, it slings up on the vehicle due to the tires outside the fenders. Also, the tires hydroplane and are flat out dangerous on wet hwy's.

I am think about switching back to the stock rims (8"), and going to the BFG Mud Terrain in 33X10.50. These are about 1" taller, but 1" narrower than what I have now.

I originally tried the 32X11.50's on the stock rims, but they rubbed when turning tight. Has anyone tried the 10.50 width 33's on stock rims?

The 32x11.50 would work fine on the factory wheels. 11.50 is the section width, they more than likely have a tread width closer to 9-9.5"......which is too narrow to run on a 10" wheel. The narrower rim will square the sidewalls and round the contact patch a little more, ending some of that hydroplaning. The 33x10.5 is fine and almost perfectly matched with an 8" wheel, but I think you'd be just as happy with the 32s and factory wheels.

I tried the ones I have now with factory wheels and they rubbed on the front on a hard turn. that is why I went to the 10" rims with the offset. I could have decreased the wheel stops, but I decided to get a new set of rims, which ended up being a mistake. I am kinda leaning towards just selling the four tires and rims in a set, they only have 1,200 miles on them, and starting over.

First of all, the AT's on the proper wheel will be much better than an MT in the rain. I had 32x11.50's BFG AT's on 7" wheels and they were great in rain/snow. They are not great for mud though - but they will get you by if the Jeep spends most of the time on the street.

The 33x10.50's on stock wheels are going to give you more problems rubbing than the 32's, because the problem is when you are turning, not flexing - right? Taller tires will be even worse.

I'd keep the tires you have, and either:
A. Adjust wheel stops

B. Get the proper backspacing/offset wheels in the 8" variety (the ones you bought were probably way to little backspacing). I would suggest 4.5" backspacing - that should keep them under the wheel wells yet avoid rubbing.

or
C. Invest in some wheel spacers.

You could use wheels that are 8" wide, but with the same offset as the ones that were 10" wide (if the 10's didn't rub at hard turns).
