Axle shaft nut retainer

I think that is what this part is called. It is outside piece on the front wheels with a cotter pin through the middle of it. Is this supposed to be loose fitting, snug, tight, or what? If I need to be more clear as to what I am talking about, please ask.

The retainer has a spring washer on the backside and goes over the top of the nut. You should be able to wiggle it, but not turn it. Hope this helps

Thanks, thats what it does, wiggle, not turn. I've only had this jeep a short time and never had the wheels (or most anything else) off my old one. I just noticed it this afternoon when I was changing out wheels and was curious about it. I didn't see any way to tighten it unless someone had put the wrong size on it or something. I'm still a little wet behind the ears in regards to Jeeps. Almost all of my auto mechanical background is on my old worn out VW bugs.
