I purchased a 1990 Wrangler for my son whos just starting to drive. I'm interested in adding a 2.5 or 4 inch lift but am concerned about the axles. The front is vacuum controlled and to be honest, both rears look kinda weak. When I was 18 I had an 82 CJ-7, the thing went anywhere. I lifed that as well and everything seemed to be much stronger. Now to my question, I have access to a 78 CJ7 and am thinking about swapping bith axles and installing new springs for the lift. Has anyone done this? Are the spring mounts the same width on the CJ and the Wrangler? Will I be able to use the driveshafts from either of the two vehicles and what kind of work will need to be done to the schakles? I really liked the old style locking hubs, this new vacuum system seems like it's gonna be trouble. If anyone knows, please let me know what I'm getting into.
