Bad clutch

My clutch just went out yesterday and needs replacing. Are there any recommendations to replacement parts? Should I do it myself or have it done? Is the slave difficult? stock/aftermarket/performance parts? It will be driven on the road primarily 95% of the time? Your assistance is appreciated....

By all means change out the Slave while you are in there. I did not and had to go back in a second time to put it in. Stock clutch seems to work well you street and light off road uses. The luck of the draw gave you a 4 banger and there is not to much power there to cause you to burn the clutch or other drive train parts. I had mine done but that is because I have a great friend that has a local wrench shop and gives me a real break on repairs. On mine the slave is intergraded with the throw out bearing. NAPA had the best price on the slave saved me 40 bucks on that over the dealers price. I had my orginal clutch re lined and the fly wheel refaced at a local clutch shop. Bleeding the clutch took a couple of tries after the install. Hope this helps and good luck Tug[addsig]

if you know what you are doing, and have the space and tools to do it... changing a clutch is not too tough... just a lot of muscling the transmission around to get it in... my record is 4 hours out and in. while you're at it... replace it all... they sell complete kits for like $140 on ebay... if your flywheel is not flat and smooth, get it resurfaced... if its ok... don't worry about it... MAKE SURE to keep all clutch parts clean, it takes a long time for even fingerprints to wear off the contact surfaces, and you can often notice all of them[addsig]

They sell a kit with both the clutch kit and hydraulic slave, at Carolina Clutch for a real good price. Get a LUK replacement clutch, good OEM type. A performance clutch is not needed and a waste of money.[addsig]
