5 inch shackles

Anybody have some experience removing carpet adhesive to prep for applying a bedliner? I got some gnarly adhesive remover that makes my skin itch (even while I'm wearing neoprene gloves), but it takes about 4 applications to be effective. Thought maybe a wire disk on my drill might work better, but thought I would first try to learn from your experiences.

I used RC rocket fuel.It took it right out,but I was scrubbing so hard that I went threw the paint!Just be careful of that.
 
i wouldn't recommend a drill/wire brush - most drills are not made for continuous use like that and the motors will burn up.
 
Try a good ol time style paint scraper your going to coat it any way so the loss of a bit of paint will not hurt. Tug

If you continue to use the adhesive remover you should get some different gloves, it sounds like neoprene may be permiable to the solution youre using. Some heavy Nitrile based gloves might solve the problem.

Sounds like good old elbow grease is the solution (along with modern chemicals...). Thanks for all the responses.
 
MEK or metholethylkeytone is great for taking off adhesives on the aircraft I work on but it will take the paint off right along with the adhesive. It's kind of hard to find but some industrial chemical places still have it. You'll be stoned in about 20 minutes so wear a mask and do it in the open air if possible. On my Jeep I used WD-40 and a scraper. The WD-40 will soften the adhesive then I just scraped it off. Then used a rag and WD-40 to clean the rest of it. Works great for getting oil off the outside too.
