Changing out my clutch Question.....

So I've been replacing rod-thrown 4-banger, and considered taking the time to change my clutch.

I've heard two opinions. One person I talked to said I could change just the clutch disc, NOT including the pressure plate, just to save money--- and the pressure plate appears to be in decent condition.

Another friend says I may as well change the whole thing out, despite the cost-- just bite the bullet and do it. However this friend usually does everything 110%, and right now I really just want my jeep back- it's been down for a bit more than a month....

Thoughts? Is just doing the disc a *bad* decision or just the cheap decision?

you can replace just the clutch disc, but while you have it apart, it would be very cheap insurance to have the presure plate re-surfaced at a minimum. My guy does it for $20.

it would really suck if you get the whole thing together and find out that the friction surface on the new clutch is not matching the friction marks on the pressure plate from the old clutch, so there is some slippage. then you have to take it all apart again.
