Clicking exhaust valve

Hello guys. As the title suggests, I have a clicking exahust valve, at least, I'm pretty sure that's what it is. It's one the first cylinder and I can hear it coming rom the valve cover and I can hear it in the tailpipe too. Sooo, exahust valve right? I may be imagining things(I didn't drive it all school year, had to leave it in Texas), but I think it may have gotten worse since I came into posession of the Jeep. Question is, how do I go about diagnosing and fixing this? First thing I thought to do was run it with the valve cover off and just watch and listen to it but wanted to get y'all's opinions first. Thanks a lot guys, any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Adios.

Pull the valve cover off and check each valve for tightness. My first guess would've been just an exhaust leak. To diagnose that just drop a little ATF in the carb when it's running and see where the white smoke comes out. Back to the valves though.......On my old Camaro I had a problem where one of the valve studs kept backing out of the head. They were only push in studs and I drove that car a little harder then I should've sometimes. If the stud has backed out a little you can take the head off and a machine shop can re-press it in for you.

Pull the head and take to a machine shop. Replacing/reseating valves is about as boring as it gets and you will never get it quite right if you haven't done it before. Best of all the machine shop will look at all of your valve at the same time and recommend which ones to replace. Shouldnt be over a couple hundred at a good machine shop.
