Hey all,

I have an issue with my 4x4. I have no 4wd, I have one of those wonderful vacuum engagment motors on the axle housing. Well i thought at first I had a vacuum issue but I check the vacuum lines for correct vacuum in 2 and 4 wheel drive. after removing and cleaning the vacuum motor I tried to slide the collar to lock the 2 axles together and it was stuck. Only a pry bar can persuade it to move. after sliding back and forth with a prybar for a good hour it still wouldn't really loosen up much. Has anyone ever had this issue and is there a cure? Any info would be of great help. I have an 88 cherokee with 117,000 on the ticker. thanks[addsig]

Hmmm... maybe the collar at one time got stuck half way (partially engaged) and it jammed on the shaft??

My Vaccum shift motor kept getting stuck half way and sometimes after using 4 wheel drive it wouldn't disengage. It turned out that the vacuum diaphrams in the motor were completly oil soaked. So, thanks to this board, I saw This Site which you might consider doing if you can get the collar fixed/unstuck.

Hope that helps :)
