directional signals on 2003 grand cherokee

Recently I sold my 89 cherokee and purchased a 2003 grand cherokee. I love it. But the directional signals work sometimes and sometimes they don't. I have not noticed a pattern to when they work or not work. I tried searching the forum for threads and did not get any hits. If someone can suggest a key search word other than directional signals or blinkers I will search for threads. Or if someone can offer a suggestion where to look for the solution, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

New info...when I rotate the light switch from off to the next 3 choices ending in auto, the radio light dims. Clearly a short or drain somewhere...any ideas where to start? Could this be a bad relay? What would drain sometimes and not other times? Any suggestions would be appreciated...still new to the 2003. Thank you.

Maybe get out the old volt meter, and check that you are getting a full amount of juice through your circuit. Sometimes everything looks fine, but you have a little corrosion or something in the wires up under the dash, before it gets to the flasher on your fuse box. If everything is ok there, then possibly the actual switch itself on your column may not be making a good connection.

Thank you B192734 for your reply. I checked the elctrical connections and they were ok. I replaced the switch ( a lot easier than the 89 cherokee) on the column and no more problems. The good news is that when I cracked open the old switch, I found a printed circuit board which had a bad spot on it. I think the PCB had gone bad after 100,000 miles. In case others have a directional problems on their 2003, check the PCB.

Gotta add this correction. The directional signals worked for about 10 days and then they started acting up again. I read some other threads on this forum and after purchasing and replacing the flasher relay, I think I'm good to go. So the solution was probably the relay and not the PC board all along. Thanks again for the help from jeepz :)
