Drain the fuel tank, yj

I need to replace the fuel filter and empty the gas so I can get better gas. I suspect the gas was bad when I got it and I also may have gotten water in there while wheeling through water.

I took out the fuel filter and expected to be able to drain all the fuel from that hose, but it only leaked for a few minutes, and I had aproximately a half tank left.

What do I do to remove the rest?

Please be specific because I'm just learning.

does the Jeep run at all on what's in there?? If so live with it for 1/2 a tank's worth and fill it up, just run it outta there; now, if it's got too much water or silt in there to even run on? that's different.

I'd rather run it out now, especially since I'm not entirely positive the filter/water is the problem.

Any directions on how to drain? :p

get a hose that is long enough to reach past the bottom of the tank and suck on the hose till fuel starts running and it should continue till its empty

get a clear hose, so you can see the gas comeing before it gets to your mouth,it taste pretty bad. get hose at hardware store.

The key is to keep the end with the gas coming out lower than the tank. Be sure to have enough gas cans to hold the gas ready.

I drained my boat and took the gas to my local dump. They recycled it for me.

put a clear hose in the tank through the fill hose. the end that is out side the tank, at the very end of the hose put a small slice about a 1/4" from the end about 1/4" long parallel with the hose profile. with one of these

attached to a hose attached to a compressor. stick the tip of the blow gun into the slit in the hose with the blown air facing away from teh tank. a couple quick shots of air and the fuel will come out of the tank through the hose. Make sure that the end of the hose stays lower than the bottom of the tank. I like to use hose with a 3/4 OD, it will drain a 15 gallon tank in about a minute.

That is not the correct air nozzle for the job, you need one more stream lined, one that you can attach to a bicycle pump is the way to go.
let us know how ya made out.

If ya have to use the hose, make sure the gas is comeing through the hose in a counter clockwise direcion, otherwise the vector displacement of the fluid will not be correct, and youll be there for ever getting your tank empty.
