RE: 700 R4 conversion

just wondering if anybody else saw who was deemed the new "four wheeler of the year" by four wheeler magazine. unfortunately... it is the:

VW touareg!!!!!!!!!

they made it seem pretty convincing that this thing actually deserved it... but i'm still a little skeptical. second place went to the new land rover LR3 (a very close second)... and third place went to the new jeep GC. something sure is messed up with VW is making SUV's that are better "four wheelers" than the infamous land rover and jeep.

FourWheeler knows who pays the bills, they can't give it to the same manufacturer every year ;)

Not saying the touareg is any better than the new grand or not.. But I have read and reread the article a number of times and the one thing they really don't take into consideration is overall off road performance. But rather the all around capability of the vehicle in a real world situation.
The touareg does have a more powerful engine, and had more storage capacity, and better track times.

IMHO I think it is a POS especially for $70,000

RE: oil pressure

Every time I read of these vehicles that cost that much I dream of having a fraction of that $$$ to build my perfect YJ that would kick their tails.

Jeez, $70k?!?!? That's waaaaay too much for that thing. Yeah, if they're going to name a 4-wheeler of the year, it should be based solely on off-road performance, to heck with track times and storage. Heck, my YJ is nearly stock, has hardly any storage space, and is slow as a turtle off the line, but I bet good money it would still run circles around that powder-puff VW off road!!!

Well I am no VW lover by any means, but that Tourareg has Audi's all wheel drive system and a guy I work with just bought one. It is one sweet all wheel drive car. Yes I said car...

NOT 4X4 !!!

$70g's gets you the V10 though, which is the model that they tested! you can also have a v6, v8, super charged v8 and then the v10

This is a link for a local dealership, and none of these are either the S/C or v10, and they are still $55G's
