had about half a tank of gas stolen out of my jeep the night before last (the other half tank was in puddles allover the ground) :( so i invested in a locking gas cap, cost me about $15 but i figure if it might save me $30 worth of gas some day then its worth it, i am told this is a crime that is becoming quite popular in florida, just wondering, do any of you old coops use a locking gas cap?

Are you sure they didn't poke a hole in your tank?
Stock locking caps suck.
A locking cap is only a deterrent.
Viper system at least makes enough noise it will call attention.

i looked at stock ones but they diddnt seem sturdy, so the girl at advanced auto suggested a better one that has a better lock that doesent require one to "jiggle" the key as she said lol

Locking gas cap will be a good start. Next you move on to a Glock 27 and that should do the trick... Just kidding, don't do that becaus protecting your self and your property will qualify you as a bad guy. A "Body piercing by Glock" sticker on mine might think people to stay the hell away from my car. I wouldn't be afraid to use it either....

i have a decal from when my dad bought his glock 40 subcompact, tht thing is a hand cannon lol might need to put that decal on

That Sux! When gas was at $5/gallon people were stealing gas left and right in so California. It costs me about $70 to fill up my LJ, I would be upset if someone stole my gas. My gas is insured by H&K...🔫

i had just filled up too, put $64 in and they took half and spilled the rest allover my yard, they made a mess out of my jeep too

I have the stock locking cap. Came that way. I've not given it a thought. I never had a locking cap til the jeep. Most vehicles don't have one, do they? I didn't realize this was a growing problem. Guess I am naive.

I also have a stock factory gas cap and a Viper alarm so I think I'm covered. All though I had a missing key & alarm remote once and found out all you have to do is lift the hood, locate the in line fuse, remove it and the alarm stops squeeling... I noticed with the fuse in, and alarm squeeling the ignition switch was disabled. With the fuse out the ignition switch worked (used back up key to start it & drive it off). Not sure once the fuse is out if you could hotwire it? Thinking maybe not as you would need the chipped oem key? Either way I'm going to re-locate the in-line fuse under something so it's a lot toughter to locate and maybe the squeeling will driver off the klepto's, grippers "would be car thieves"? :p

gas theft has been a problem for a fair amount of time. it always gets worse when the prices go up or holidays are here, though.

i don;t have a locking cap on mine but i have looked at them.

luckily they took your cap off and siphoned it out. most of hte time they punch a hole in the tank with a screw driver and drain what they want and let the rest drain onto the concrete.

My LJ came with a locking gas cap. I tossed a few years back. It kept setting off a check engine code. After several replacement caps, I just got an OEM non locking cap.

You're not the only one that's been a victim.

yeah i filed a police report and they said thiefs usually just poke holes in the tank, oh well i hope whoever did it got a mouth full of gasoline out of it lol im not sure how siphoning works but i think you have to suck the air out of the tube before it will flow and i could see how that could result in gas breath

yeah let them punch a hole with a drill and see how that goes lol
