Just wanted to see what everyone else does. I usually grease the joints every few weeks, since I don't do too much off-roading at the moment. But seeing as how I work on a farm, I know a little about joints, and greasing them on a regular basis does wonders. Your joints could last 10 times longer. I include the joints on the drive shafts as well.

On rigs that I wheel I usually grease them every couple times out

For the daily drivers...usually once every month or two

All of my zerks have been broken off from rocks, and I don't feel like buying new bolts just to grease things. I grease my balljoints and TRE's when I think about it, which is about twice a year

How important is this on my new '06 Wrangler?? Is this something I need to do on a regular basis?? (new to Jeeps, be gentle) :?

It all depends on your preference. You could grease them as much as you like. But if you don't grease them enough, they will wear out faster. The heavier the use, the more you'll want to grease 'em. For normal use though, every oil change should do.

How exactly do you grease them?? Which joints are we referring to?

This is what you grease. If you notice, there is a little nipple(grease fitting) sticking out. You use a grease gun to inject grease into the joint.

You can buy a grease gun at pretty much any auto parts store. There are also grease nipples on the drive shafts. Take note that there are different kinds of grease fittings. If the grease doens't go in, there is either too much pressure on the joint, clogged, or you don't have the proper attachment on the gun.

Hope this helps!

PS- A garage will usually grease for you for a pretty cheap price.

i grease anything i offroad a few times a month if needed, but my daily driver once a month or every other few oil changes i'll give it some goop

Once a month here folks...
The salt of winter and the hot dry heat will kill them if I dont.
And every time I prep for my trail rides I go under to look and grease.

Same thing here.

I caught "Long Island Jeep" my X dealer not greasing the front end on regular lube visits. I lost an upper ball joint at 28,000 on an '04 rubi. It was dry as a bone and they didn't even tell me it was bad after an oil and lube and an inspection. So I changed dealers. The chrysler dealer didnt grease the front end either. Then westbury jeep didnt do it either. I started to wonder if this was a major conspiracy by the car dealers to have parts wear out faster and save on grease and labor. The I serviced the jeep at jiffy lube. They weren't going to do it either until I said something. Latley I found a handy item at the boat store. Its a disposable grease gun. Holds about enough to grease your truck once and throw it away. Boater's use it for trailers when you dip them in the water. I think its great. No mess fumbling with refilling grease guns. Comes in a small packed you can keep in your truck. Whip it out after 4-wheelin and get the gunk out of shafts and joints before you drive home with them dirty.
