I heard about this on another site, many of you probably have already done this. But I thought I'd share anyway.
If you open up your console and shifter cover, underneath you'll find an arched piece of metal. This arch is responsible for inhibiting your ability to push the handle back to the lower gears or forward into reverse without pushing in the button on the shifter.
As many of you are aware, in order to downshift, the mechanism forces you to press on the brakes and the indent button on the shifter simultaneously. I like to downshift on the fly, but sometimes all of that juggling(ie brake and button) keeps you from being able to concentrate on the most important part: driving.
Another problem with driving with the indent button pressed full time, is that there is a dangerous possiblity of throwing your truck into Reverse while going forward. This mod will keep you from needing to press that button, and thus eliminate any possiblity of doing so.
The metal is hard, so you'll need a Dremal (or it's equivalent) to file down the two rear bumps. Get plenty of grind stones, cause you'll wear em out.
Remember you'll want to SMOOTH out the bumps, not completely remove them. Otherwise you won't be able to feel the indentions for the proper gear.
Hope this is useful to someone.
Here is a diagram of said arch.
