I wana pick up some "lunch box" lockers. I think Thats the road I'm gona go down right now till I win the lottery. I was thinking bout a no slip or Aussie. I wana install it in my front axle (d30) and my rear (d35). What kind of characteristic will I c why'll im making a turn? Turning from a stop. And will it work with my rear if I have limited slip? Not sure if I have a limited slip rear end or not I have a 97 tj with the 2.5 stock axles. I know there is a way to check by lifting it up and spinning the tires. And I'm soon gona pull the vin# off the axles here in a bit. Is appreciate anyone's input on this thank you

I jacked up the rear and placed it in a forward gear and as turned the wheel forward the other wheel turned opposite.. what does that mean? And I look for id numbers and didn't find and but a few numbers every website I go to don't have this numbers but as far as I'm aware everything is stock it the front/rear axle

Sounds like its open diff. I run aussie lockers front and rear in my jeep. Little noisey but work good. I take my front one out in winter cuz it likes to slide straight when you turn the wheels. Especially if my wife drives it.

I live in az so I don't really have to worry bout snow or much rain. How does it handle off road. So will any lunch box locker work for the rear since its an open diff? How can I make sure that's its open. Don't want to buy the locker and find out it wont work once I drain all the oil and get it all opened

They work great off road. I wheel it pretty hard and haven't broke. I like Aussies for there strength. I broke 2 lock rights. And the Aussies were 40 bucks cheaper. You can get a dealer to pull up your build sheet Or you can pull the cover and drain fluid to see. It sounds like it is unless the posi clutches are totally burnt.

It does have over 88k miles. How do I get the dealer to do that? How does turning affect you?

Only notice some noise when turning. Front makes more than rear. Since mine is a dd. I may go to a trac loc but only when I can afford it. Just take your vin to them as them to look on the build sheet for trac loc differential.

Mine is a dd aswell I don't mind the noise but will it pull why'll turning? Or will it turn like it had an open diff

What's a trac loc diff? Is that selectable or auto?

It will turn normal unless in 4x4. Then you will feel it more. The trac lock is the factory limited slip. Not a reliable unit. And not very strong. 98 ft lbs and you can over come the clutches.

How come u wana switch to a trac lock of it isn't reliable? Just wondering. I wana gather as much as I can before I choose a locker

Run Aussies, Lock rites are junk, I've lost count of how many broken lock rites I've replaced with Aussie lockers, great price, great product, horrible instructions (if you need them).

as for driving around, in 2wd you will not know they are there except for maybe parking lot manuvers, tight turns might chirp the tires a little.

the only down side of the aussie, they have to be, hands down, the loudest lunch box locker ever made. so when you start hearing popping and clanking sounds when offroad, it is completely normal.

Sorry I meant a tru trac from Detroit. They are less harsh than the Aussie for the front. That way the wife can drive the jeep in the winter. It's a limited slip not a locker.

As long as you go to the proper site. If your us then .com. If Canada its .ca

Lock rites are junk,

IDK man, I've been running Lock rites for 9 yrs now, the same pair and haven't even busted a pin... I've snapped axle shafts and ripped a motor mount off the frame I've shock loaded it so bad. My rear housing and pinion let go before the locker or carrier did.

The ONLY time I've seen a lunch box style locker fail (it was a Richmond no-slip BTW) was from being installed wrong....

Then you must have the two that were designed not to fail. most common issue is not a catastrophic failure like your other breaks you meantion but rather a simple failure to lock up,
The most common reason is the cam engagement rounds over, my guess due to poor casting and or materials. I have also noted that the springs fatigue and fail which lends itself for partial engagement and contributing to the rounded over points of engagement.
