Jeep Cherokee Alloys

Hi All

Got my Jeep now and have some cash spare to spend on a few 'sensible' upgrades.

One of which I am thinking of is changing the wheels/tyres.

Couple of questions first though

1. The car is currently running on 225/70/15's which I think is a 7"X15" design but what I do not know is the offset?

2. Can I go to a 7.5"x16" with the same offset and what tyre size would be best?

3. Can I go to a 7.5"x17" with the same offset and what tyre size would be best?

4. Would either of these sizes impair the off road ability of the car?

Thanks for your help.

your stock wheel backspacing is 5.25". This is a different way of measuring "offset".

If you want to put larger tires on wheels with the same backspacing than 31" tires would be the bigges you would want to go. Any bigger would rub the control arms.

If you still have the factory suspension (no lift kit) then the biggest meats you'll want to get are 235x75x15 or equivalent (29" diameter).

With 3" of lift and stock wheels, my 31x11.5 ss ltb's rubbed the control arms. Now have wheels with 3.75 bs. My sport came with 30'' bfg at's and I think they wre only 9'' wide but i'm not for sure. No rubbing though.

I have a set of 31's on a 2000 XJ with the 2" spacers and they only rub when I hit something very hard off the side, of if I lean it over on a hill very far. The plan though is to put a real lift on so that I don't have to worry about them rubbing at all. I think it probably depends on how your individual jeep sits on it's suspension though.
