The computer runs the ignition and alternator too, if it's a SMEC (SMEC stood for "single module engine control"). Chrysler used SMECs from at least 1981 until they went to injection so you might have one. If it's the 258 I would think you could upgrade to Motorcraft electronic ignition and throw a GM integrated alternator in there (like a late 70's CJ). Best of luck - John
