i've got a 80 cj7 w/ 258 thats been sitting for years (in all weather). i am planning on popping in a used engine as soon as i can find one.

what problems might i face trying to get this running? i'm sure the brakes are rusted and stuff like that. what about the transmission, tcase,...?
do i need to flush all the fluids?
what could possibly be frozen up?

thanks

Yes I would flush the fluids....make sure the water pump is fine, and change all your fluids...

if the motor us froze up, it can be from moisture in the cylinders... you can take out the sparkplugs and pour kerosene in the chambers... this can help get rid of some of the rust in there... PB blaster should work as well... but kerosene is much cheaper for the amount, and burns out easier... then get a wrench on the crank pully and try to turn it...

I would suggest changing all the fluids... diffs, transmission, Tcase, oil, coolant, brake fluid, and very importantly, the gas...

At this time a close inspection of the steering knuckles and bushings all around. Greasing the front end is a must. U-joints need a fine inspection and possably replacing. If water and dirt has gotten past the seal your sure to loose one on the road. If it has been sitting on the tires all this time out side check the tires for dry rot. Once you move it and get it on the road a weekly inspection of the axle seals to make sure they havnt rotted either. Having a axle lock up at 55 MPH is something no one wants to happen.. especially the front end.
