Anyone know why my fourwheel isn't working? The light comes on but it isntworking??

There is a whole slew of info we need to figure that one out.

Year, model, type of motor, trans, front axle, what is history of jeep,what have you tried,
How do you know it is not working?

91 Cherokee 4.0l inline manual transmission just replaced all front end u joints. When I put her in four hi when I hit a slick spot I can hear a grinding in the front axle

Sounds like the disconnect sleeve is jammed or there is a leak at the vaccum motor. If so equipt. My 91 xj had it my 92 does not.

Did you ensure the shift collar inside the disconnect housing was in place when reinstalling the axleshaft?

You can remove the disconnect from the front axle (4 bolts), slide the shift collar to the engaged position, and reinstall the disconnect upside down. This will hold the shift collar in the locked position.
