Anyone know if completely removing stock fender flares and only doing a 2 inch Body lift will make my stock 89 yj high enough to fit 33's ? Thanks!!!!

Assuming your stock height springs are in decent shape; for street use there should be no issue, once you start to wheel and cycle the suspension no. look to enlarge the wheel openings with TJ flares, then it should fit fine.

So even With no fender flares at all And a two inch body lift 33s wont Fit off road? I wont be doing anything crazy just little Hunting and Float trips at the river. I don't really have the money now for a regular lift i have been told they are about 1500 bucks and i just dont like the looks of anything less than 33s!

I have a TJ with a 2" coil spacer lift, oem springs and shocks and I run 33"s fine as long as it's nothing too hardcore. Not sure how much difference there is between the body lift on a YJ and what I've got though so...

Okay. Thanks ill try to figure it out somehow for sure

TJs have larger openings, which is why TJ flares were mentioned... With what you suggest, you will rub on the rear when offroading. Heck, I got 4 inches of suspension lift and I STILL rub at max flex when wheeling.

When i first got my 88 wrangler it had a 3" body lift and i put 33s on it and left the flares on. It rubbed some during hard wheeling but never hurt anything.

Like mentioned, it won't work, will rub quite a bit at the rear of both fender wells.

If you want some tire clearance on the cheap, pick up a pair of used front YJ spring packs. Cut the spring eyes off and use the top two leaves of each pack for an add-a-leaf in your 4 spring packs. This provides 1.5" of lift without changing the ride quality.

Couple the 1.5" aal with a 2" body lift and some fender trimming and you should be ok. The TJ flares provide a great template for where to trim the fenders.

if you pay that much for a yj lift kit, your getting ripped off.
find a local offroad forum or search craigslist, usually used lift springs will sell for about $100 for all four, invest in some new bushings if they look like junk. get some longer NAPA brand shocks for another $100. you can make your own t-case drop from some 1x3 square stock and 6 longer bolts. move your brake lines and you should be all set, this should clear 33's with ease.

Sway bar disconnects can easily be made from your stock links and some home depot poop pipe.

most of the "yj lift kits" come with lots of extra's that are just not needed.

You can get a decent 4" spring kit in the $400-$500 range, Check Rough Country and Rusty's Offroad.

I would stay away from the rough country kits. You get what you pay for. Mine lost half its lift after two years and they wouldn't waranty them.

Okay what brand body lift is a better One? I'm Ready to order one

Performance Accessories makes a good body lift. I've owned 3 trucks over the yrs that had their pucks in them, all were 10 + yrs old and were holding up great, never had an issue would deff use again if the need arose.

I have 34" tires on my 88 yj no fender flares and a shackle lift and have no problem with clearance the shackles will only run you like 30 bucks a lot cheaper than a body lift
