pioneer lost its balls

hey, i'm seeking confirmation on a problem with my 86 pioneer... it lost its balls somewhere. when i drive it uphill it winds out in second at about 20 mph and third bogs so hard it stalls. i was told it may be stuck in a transfer gear, but im not too familiar with that... somebody know anything more?:???:

Which engine does it have, the 2.5L four or the 2.8L six?

its got the 2.8 6, the engine and trans where both rebuilt about 6 years ago by someone else, its been sittin the whole time and i just now droped 3 bills in it to get it to run but its not runnin right.
