I've read in the Chilton manual when replacing u-joints make sure the grease fitting is facing towards the drive shaft. My question is if pre packed u-joints are to be used (no grease fitting on spider) does it matter which way it is installed? Thanks, Frank[addsig]

Thats a new on to me. I wasn't aware there was a difference in how you installed them. Anyone else want to chime in here?[addsig]

fittings toward the driveshaft???? can't quite understand that one... all the fittings would be facing outward, perpendicular to the shaft[addsig]

On a sealed U-joint with no grease fitting, it does not matter which way it goes in. :) [addsig]

On some u-joints, the fittings are installed on a slight angle. This makes it easier to grease them without having to unbolt the shaft. :-O [addsig]

Joey has a good point.. also..install the u-joint so the grease fitting is in compression relative to shaft rotation...it will be appreciably stronger than compared to installing it where the fitting is in tension relative to shaft rotation. The tapped hole in the joint is the weakest area...one of the reasons perma-lubed joints are stronger...no holes.. :-D [addsig]
