Rear Hatch door wont unlock 02 Grand

Just got this grand a few months ago and everything was working just fine and a few days ago I used the switch on the drivers door to unlock all the doors and hatch , all the doors unlocked but the hatch door wont ? I have no clue where to start looking for the problem.. any help would be apprieated.

Can you manually open the hatch - just won't lock ?
Can you hear anything in tailgate - window lock/unlock? How about wiper?

Fuse block fuse #8 15amp.

my reading comprehension sucks today - attachment is manual opening.
Climb into back remove a small cover photo #2 in tailgate trim panel photo #1 shows where it is.
3 & 4 show the lever you will move upor down

Please Let me know

Thats good info K-2 Thanks. The wiper works but I cant hear the sound of the electric lock moving. I was wondering what that cover plate was and now I know. This weekend I will open the hatch by using that release lever and inspect the locking assy and fuse #8. Hopefully it just needs some spray grease or good ol wd-40 to fix it.

Did you ever get your issue resolved? Just got my 02 grand Cherokee and having same exact issue it used to work and now it just won’t
