Rear Tire Carrier Latch Rattles

My Smitttybilt tire carrier latch rattles over every bump. I tried extending the bumpstop on the tailgate and that helped a little but it still rattles. Does anyone have a fix for this, besides welding a new one as I do not know how to weld, yet.

I have the Smittybilt classic bumper and tire carrier. The latch on mine also rattled. I cut a small piece of an old mud flap. I use it as a spacer inside the square hole where the latch goes. It was just thick enough to make the latch tight.

Just to the right of the square that the latch goes into there is a screw with a rubber washer. Just add 1 or two steel washers between the rubber one and the bumper and no more rattles.
