Hi,
I have a 1985 CJ-7. While rebuilding the engine, it was decided to replace the busted tilt column while we had it down and apart. A friend was going to rebuild it but now says that he needs some parts that are obsolete or that he can't find....
I have a Chevy 400 small block and the Jeep has had a spring over, so I do not know if the original column was left and used, or if the previous modifications may have necessitated a different column.
I am looking for either good advice on what kinds of vehicles to look for in a bone yard that might make decent donors, even with some modifications like wiring, etc...OR anyone who might have a good tight tilt column for sale, or any advice at all on the subject.
I know Quadratec has new ones, but they are a bit pricey and I see they recccomend beefier steering shafts to be used with their new columns, and at this point with the rebuild on the small block, money is a bit tight, but I will try to do the best thing. One thing is for sure, although the new 400 is purring like a kitten, it'll be darn tough to drive without a steering column.....any help or ideas will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Mark
