I have two CJ7s both are lifted with 3-1/2 lifts and both steer the same you literally have to turn the steering wheel about 3/4 to a full turn before it reacts .I fooled around with the steering box but no difference. Is this normal with cjs. I also have a 95 yj which react fine .thanks for any info

Pretty normal for old CJ's but it doesn't have to be that way. Most of the play is generally in loose steering components like tierod ends and worn suspension components like spring and shackle bushings. Have a friend turn the steering wheel back and forth while you inspect everything in the front end that is sloppy.

sound like your steering gear needs to be re-built but do ^^that^^
Look at the steering while it is being cycled.
