sloppy steering

i have a 1979 cj7 258 2bbl quadratrac that i have been having problems with sloppy steering, about 20-30 degrees either way. i changed the lower steering coupler bearings and installed a brand new steering gear and still have alot of slop. i know that the tie rod ends were replaced and a front end alignment 4 years ago when i drove from Va to WI where a month after i got there it sat for about 4 years. i jacked it up and wiggled the wheels which are 33 inch with no lift or a 1 inch body lift there was a little play left to right when i wiggled the wheels but none up and down the sway bar bushings are shot but i dont know if that would do anything to cause the slop i have, any other suggestions? i have pretty much replaced all the steering components and am sick of spending money on it!! HELP!!!

I had only a little play in 'Betty's steering but after getting a heavy duty pitman arm and steering gearbox mount I took 'er in to a fantactic shop in the next town over from me and now it steers on the street like a new sedan. Might consider doing the same.
