hey guys im back again. mines a 87' w/ 258 and ba10/5. have any of you ever had a problem where at start-up she makes the most god-aweful sound but starts up fine every time? I ve tried 3 different starters with the same problem. the flex plate is in place and the flywheel and starter gear teeth are fine. I was thinkin it was in need of shimming but of all the people i ask none of them have ever heard of a 258's starter needing shims. any help would be appreciated although i have learned to live with it even though it draws the attention of everyone within 100 yards. thanks.

is it a metal on metal sound?
Maybe the belt?
when did it begin?

My '94 started doing that last year right after I bought it, one morning when it was 5 below zero. Did it most of the summer until I went mudding in some really heavy mud, then it quit....hasn't done it since.

it does sound like metal on metal. i think ill have to try sparky-watts cure and beat the crap out of it until it quits. quits making the noise that is. thanks guys
