Can anyone help -- I put a new starter in my 1988 Wrangler, 4 cyl, three months ago. This jeep has always revved real high when for starting the jeep but it only lasted for a few seconds. Now, there is a large cranking noise when I start the jeep -- it starts, but there seems to be something amiss as though the starter isn't connecting right or something. Any ideas?

Sticking bendix gear maybe? Did you shim the new starter the same as the old?
